Fulfillment costs in the Netherlands: what you pay for and what to check

XLI Fulfillment · Updated 2026 · 5 min read

Outsourcing fulfillment sounds simple, but between your stock arriving and the customer receiving a parcel there are several steps and several cost items. This guide walks through the process and the costs so you can compare quotes properly.

The process: from inbound to delivery

  1. Delivery to the warehouse: your stock arrives by pallet, container or parcel. Transport to the warehouse is settled with your own carrier or freight forwarder.
  2. Receiving and unloading: the warehouse receives the shipment and checks quantities.
  3. Counting and put-away: everything is counted per SKU, put on location and registered in the warehouse management system (WMS).
  4. Stock sync: the WMS is connected to your sales channels, so stock levels match everywhere and you do not oversell.
  5. Order in: an order flows through to the warehouse automatically.
  6. Pick, pack and dispatch: the warehouse picks, packs and labels the order and hands it to the carrier.
  7. Delivery: the customer receives the parcel and can track it on the way.

What to prepare before your first shipment is covered in our inbound process.

Shipping costs

Shipping is charged on every order and is often the largest item. It depends on weight, size and destination. A letterbox parcel is cheaper than a standard parcel, and shipping within the Netherlands is cheaper than to Belgium. It pays to keep that in mind when choosing products and packaging.
